South Carolina Six
In watching the South Carolina debate a few thoughts came to mind.
It was too bad that Duncan Hunter wasn't included. Here is a case where one of the best candidates hasn't been noticed much by the public. Now it has gotten far enough along that he isn't being allowed to participate on the same stage with the other candidates, so there is no way he can catch the eye of the public.
Ron Paul was allowed in this debate. Good for FOX. But in listening to Ron Paul this night it became clear that he is not the best messenger for his message. Not that he doesn't have some good ideas and ideas that are correct and some that may not be. People are quick to want to marginalize Ron Paul. Especially John McCain in his looks and smiles when Ron Paul is speaking. John McCain looks at him and smiles like Mr. Paul is crazy. At times when what Mr. Paul is saying is true and correct. I guess John McCain just as soon not deal with some of those issues.
It was good to see Fred Thompson be a part of the debates in this one. The pundits are saying it is too late for him, but what do the pundits know? Fred Thompson could (key word being could) catch fire after these debates. He will have to remain engaged but I see a person many could be drawn to in him.
Mike Huckabee did well in the debates I thought. Here is a person that the pundits don't understand very well. Including what attracts people to him. I could see him winning the nomination as long as he doesn't stumble on foreign affairs. He isn't a dumb person, I would think he will study more and do better with foreign affairs issues.
Mitt Romney did okay in the debate but there is just something about him that doesn't draw people in to him. Maybe he is too polished.
Rudy Giuliani's mayor of the people and how he handled the terror attack isn't playing as well as it once did. It now appears he is having money issues with his campaign and does his party really want to support a person who is so liberal on two very important issues?
Speaking of liberal let us not forget John McCain. He is no conservative and I don't believe that he can truly be trusted on the border issue. I hear what he is saying about closing the border first, but that is part of the problem, the way he is saying it. He HASN'T changed his mind about how he THINKS it SHOULD be handled. He can't be trusted on this issue. Don't forget McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy. Don't forget the Bush tax cuts. Don't forget the Gang of 14. There may be a lot more then just the border that we should question how much he can be trusted on other issues.
